The Group has defined Group Compliance Rules and is constructing structures to promote compliance, centered on the Compliance Committee. We appoint a Compliance Promotion Officer at each division and group company, putting in place reporting systems to allow rapid sharing of information, and conduct measures such as providing education. At facilities in areas outside Japan, such as North America, Europe, China, South Korea, Taiwan, ASEAN region, and Israel, we promote compliance in accordance with the Compliance Program common throughout the Group, taking the culture, laws, business practices, and other values of each country into account.
Additionally, in Japan and other regions overseas we manage and operate whistleblowing systems through the business unit in charge of compliance promotion or external lawyers and specialist organizations.
After factoring in the gravity of the Medway/Quality Control Issues (a violation of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law and GMP Ministerial Ordinance), and recognizing the need to prevent any further incidents of misconduct, the Group has introduced an annual Corporate Behavior Charter Day, which offers employees the opportunity to review the Group’s Corporate Behavior Charter and reflect on their individual conduct.
In fiscal 2024, we held annual compliance meetings at worksites throughout Japan. At these meetings, which are focused on exchanges of opinions, employees read the Compliance Guidebook together, and sign pledges in which they vow to conduct themselves in accordance with the Corporate Behavior Charter and the Compliance Guidebook. We also held compliance meetings at overseas Group companies by including content unique to specific regions as well as content used in Japan.
Seeking to ensure that employees respect each other’s human rights, and to create safe, comfortable workplaces, the Group revised the “Harassment Prevention Guidebook” released in 2018, released an updated version in January 2023. In December 2023, we formulated our “Guidebook for Understand LGBTQ+,” and are circulating it among our employees.
In an internal initiative, for all employees, in fiscal 2023 we held harassment-prevention training on sexual harassment and alcohol-induced harassment, and in fiscal 2024 conducted training on preventing abuse of authority in the workplace to eliminate harassment and create comfortable working environments.
