As measures to develop the next generation, the Group provides support for Japanese and international students studying at medical and pharmaceutical schools, offers visiting lectures, and uses its domestic and overseas offices for company visits and as venues for pharmaceutical lectures. Furthermore, we provide comprehensive learning initiatives that leverage the unique knowledge of a pharmaceutical company to benefit students.
To support the development of medical care, welfare, and scientific technology, and to contribute to the development of human resources in the medical and pharmaceutical fields for the next generation, in March 2023, the Company established the JEES/Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Medical and Pharmaceutical Scholarship by making a donation to the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES)* scholarship program in support of students, including international students, studying at medical and pharmaceutical faculties.
- Japan Educational Exchange and Services (JEES)
A public interest incorporated foundation that offers support to Japanese and international students. As part of its activities, JEES operates a program of named scholarships, under which scholarships are named for the person or company funding them.
The JEES/Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Medical and Pharmaceutical Scholarship program was terminated following the completion of the 2025 application period.
The Company provides visiting lectures, with employees traveling to schools to act as lecturers. Since fiscal 2021, we have participated in the Saturday Learning Support Group, promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, offering programs with themes such as careers in the pharmaceutical industry (research and development of new drugs, etc.), and manufacturing.
In fiscal 2024, we visited five schools to give lectures.

Feedback from schools
- I never expected the students to be so positive and enthusiastic about tackling assignments! I got to see a side of the students I do not normally see.
- The COVID-19 pandemic began when the third-year junior high school students were in the upper grades of elementary school, and so they entered junior high school without having had many opportunities to interact with other people. I have been concerned with how more of these students struggle with expressing themselves verbally than students in other years. To be honest, I was worried that they might not be able to engage with an adult they had not met before, but my concerns about the students attending proved to be completely unfounded.
Feedback from employee instructors
- The students seemed a little shy and nervous when they entered the classroom before we started, but became more active and engaged as group work progressed. The closing comments from their teacher gave us a sense of accomplishment and success.
- For the students, the chance to experience production-related activities seems to have been extremely satisfying. We have also been notified that they are planning a presentation on learning activities where they will talk about their experiences in this lecture. Knowing that they will apply what they learned in other contexts gives me an even greater sense of fulfilment.
Each of the Company’s offices is taking steps to promote harmonious coexistence with local communities, such as offering tours for regional organizations and comprehensive learning initiatives for nearby schools and school excursions. The goal is to introduce our business, the services of our pharmaceutical company, and employees’ careers, and to help students develop careers through dialogue. We welcomed a total of four schools in fiscal 2024 for company visits at each of our business locations.

Student feedback
- I was very surprised to hear that it takes from nine to sixteen years to create pharmaceuticals, but at the same time, I realized that it must be incredibly rewarding precisely because it takes so much time.
- I will cherish what I learned from the workplace experience, and will do my best to achieve my dreams.
- I am very grateful to have been able to learn about so much, not just about making pharmaceuticals, but about the importance of the people around you, and the things that will shape my life in future.
Feedback from schools
- We are extremely grateful that you put so much work into the preparation. The work you put into improving the lectures from previous years was truly impressive, from playing background music during the experiments to giving high-fives before starting, and enhancing the presentation slides. The improvements were evident throughout.
In 2021, we endorsed the Saturday Study Support Group* promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and started offering educational programs through visiting lectures and tours of our historical museum. Please use the program as an aid to enrich children’s learning.

The Group closely monitors disaster-stricken areas and provides emergency and reconstruction support in the event of a disaster in Japan or abroad.
Continuing efforts from the previous year, in September 2024, we collaborated with our labor union to hold a bar featuring local sake in support of disaster recovery in the Okunoto region.
This year we sold sake brewed from rice mash recovered from breweries that had been damaged in the 2023 Okunoto earthquake, as well as local sake from Kanagawa Prefecture, where our Yokohama office is located.
We also responded to requests for non-alcoholic beverages by selling locally made cider made from ingredients such as Kanazawa watermelon and DENEN salt from Okunoto, donating the proceeds minus the purchasing costs to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
